Q: What types of health insurance plans do you offer?
A: We work with a variety of major carriers to provide individual, family, and small business plans. Options include ACA Marketplace plans, private health coverage, and short-term or supplemental plans such as dental, vision, accident, and critical illness.
Q: Can I use my plan with any doctor or hospital?
A: Many of our private plans offer nationwide PPO networks, so you can get covered at any doctor or hospital. Most of the ACA Marketplace plans are HMO networks, which are limited to providers nearby only. We’ll help you choose a plan that includes your preferred providers.
Q: How do I know if I qualify for a subsidy or tax credit?
A: Tax credits are based on your household income and family size relative to the federal poverty level. During our consultation, we’ll calculate your eligibility using the Marketplace guidelines to make sure you get all the financial help you deserve.
Q: Are we still receiving tax credits for 2026?
A: With the Inflation Reduction Act expiring for 2026, the tax credits for ACA plans will be reduced back to the original subsidies pre COVID. Many families may see higher cost for ACA plans as a result. We'll make sure to see if you are eligible, and go through your other options if you do not receive any tax credits.
Q: Why am I getting spam calls trying to get a quote?
A: Quoting websites are used to sell your information to marketers, which is why they will start spam calling you. At RM Health Advising, we will NEVER give or sell your information to any marketers or unaffiliated companies. You will only be contacted how you prefer, by one licensed advisor assigned to your request, and you can opt out at any time.
Q: What does it cost to work with you?
A: Our advisory services are completely free to you - we’re compensated by the insurance companies, not by our clients. You get unbiased advice at no extra cost.
Q: What’s the process to get started?
A: It’s simple:
Schedule a free consultation (phone or video).
Review your options with your advisor.
Apply online and get covered - often within 24 hours.
Q: Do you handle renewals or plan changes each year?
A: Yes. We provide annual renewal support to review your plan and ensure you’re still getting the best value. We also assist with special enrollment changes anytime your situation changes.
Q: When is Open Enrollment for ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans?
A: The ACA Open Enrollment Period runs from November 1 to January 15 each year.
If you enroll by December 15, your coverage usually begins January 1.
If you enroll between December 16–January 15, coverage typically starts February 1.
Q: What if I missed Open Enrollment?
A: You may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) if you’ve had a qualifying life event — such as losing other coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or other major changes. We’ll help you determine if you qualify and guide you through enrollment. If you miss open enrollment and have no Special Enrollment Period, we have private plans through major insurance carriers that are available all year round.
Q: What are ACA tax credits, and how do they work?
A: ACA tax credits (also called Premium Tax Credits) are subsidies that lower your monthly premium. They’re based on your estimated yearly income. When you file your taxes, the IRS reconciles your actual income to ensure your credit was accurate — you may get additional savings or owe a small balance if income changed.
Q: How do I know which plan is best for me?
A: Generally, you want a plan that will cover your preferred doctors, hospitals, and health needs, at an affordable price.
At RM Health Advising, we start by reviewing your current coverage, doctors, prescriptions, and budget. Then we compare multiple options to find the plan that fits your needs - whether that’s a low-premium bronze plan or a comprehensive gold PPO.
Q: What’s the difference between an HMO, PPO, and EPO?
A:
HMO: Lower premiums, but requires referrals and in-network care.
PPO: Higher flexibility - see any doctor without referrals. PPO networks also have a provider discount for in-network hospitals and doctors
EPO: In between - no referrals, but in-network only.
We’ll explain these differences and help you decide which is right for your situation.
Q: Can I change my plan during the year?
A: If you go with an ACA plan, only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (due to a qualifying event). Otherwise, you must wait until the next Open Enrollment window.
Q: How are health insurance premiums calculated?
A: Premium costs are based on your age, location, household size, income, and tobacco use.
Q: What’s the difference between deductible, copay, and coinsurance?
A:
Deductible: The amount you pay before insurance starts covering costs.
Copay: A set fee you pay for specific services (like a doctor visit).
Coinsurance: The percentage you pay after meeting your deductible.
Q: Are dental and vision plans included with health insurance?
A: Not always. Some plans include limited dental or vision benefits, but most require add-on policies. We offer affordable standalone dental and vision coverage options.
Q: Is my personal information safe?
A: Absolutely. We follow all HIPAA and Marketplace security guidelines. Your personal data is never shared or sold and is used only to help you find and apply for insurance coverage.
Q: Are you licensed and certified?
A: Yes - RM Health Advising and our advisors are fully licensed in multiple states and certified to assist with ACA Marketplace plans and private insurance options.
